There is nothing to plan and nothing to decide. You pick a cell, read its code, draw the mark in the color it asks for, and move on to the next one. For a while it looks like nothing much, then the shadows settle in, the colors start talking to each other, and the picture arrives. FAQ
What pens should I use?
Gel pens are what this book is made for, in colors that are easy to find. The palette is printed on the back cover so you can match it, and the set I recommend is Pilot G2 Rainbow. It is on my links page, along with the other sets I use.
Will the ink bleed through the page?
Gel pens are fine. Please avoid alcohol or other juicy markers: they soak through the paper, and the key printed on the other side is what tells you how to color the next page.
Do I need to know how to draw?
Not at all. There are six marks in the whole book, from a light dot to a solid fill, and each one is shown in the key. If you can draw a dot and a line, you have everything you need.
Can I really do a page with a single pen?
Yes. Every page works in monochrome: keep the marks, ignore the color names, and one pen carries the whole picture.
How do I know which color to use?
Each code is a number or a letter, and the key on the page pairs it with one mark and one written color name. There is also an optional online palette if you would rather check a page’s colors on your phone.
Is there a digital version?
Not yet. For now it is a printed paperback only, though the online palette is there if you like having the colors on screen.
